Her thrumming wings blurred
in a hundred-wing whir,
a hummingbird sings
at a rung barely heard
by more humanly beings.

But another bird stirs
at its summoning chirps

while tonguing bright syrups
from honey-bud whorls
with unsummable slurps.

His throbbing wings girt
in a shimmering skirt,

the hovering bird spins
in a plummeting hurl
on its homeward swing.

Then together they twirl
in a helical whirl,
till tumbling they swerve
in a sundering curve.

An ephemeral world.
